If for some reason the Alphard and Vellfire are not luxurious enough for you, then here’s the Lexus LM, which is basically an Alphard with a Lexus badge.
I think of the Lexus LM as a more ‘atas’ luxury car based on the Alphard… which is also a luxury car.
If I had to guess, i’d say the LM was created to serve those who find an Alphard/Vellfire too common, or that the Toyota badge simply wasn’t enough to match their expensive tastes.
Since the Alphard is a common car for towkays to get chauffeured in, it is no surprise that we are seeing a more high-end variant of that. Just like the Maybach to the S-Class, or the Autobiography to the Vogue?
On the outside, the LM has a familiar face with the big spindle grill you find on many modern Lexus models. In some ways, it looks like the tall version of the Lexus ES.
From the side however, you’d be forgiven for mistaking it for an Alphard. Because at first glance it seems exactly the same. You’d have to look at the head and tail lights to tell them apart.
At the rear, the tail lights form a L shape, and they run across the entire width of the car.. which is a design syle used by many new cars like the Panamera, 911, Cayenne, Q8.
The Lexus LM comes in 4 and 7 seater variants. The 4 seater is for those who want “an unrivaled chauffeured experience” – The two boss seats are stuffed with plush low-density urethane foam that offers ideal support with couch-like comfort, Lexus says.
In the 4 seater variant, there’s a partition between the front and rear seats, giving the occupants in the back total privacy.
For comfort, the seats in the 4 seater Lexus LM come with adaptipedic padding (which is like a comfortable memory foam) and a seat massage. There’s even a mini-fridge inside!
In the middle, the center console comes with a touch control panel. This controls the seat position, relaxation function, climate control, and the Mark Levinson audio system.
Performance wise – the Lexus LM has a top speed of 180km/h, does 0-100km/h in 8.3 seconds and has 297 horsepower from a 3.5 litre V6 engine.
It also comes with safety tech like the Adaptive High Bean System, Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Blind Spot Monitor and Parking Support Brake.
The Lexus LM was unveiled for China and “select Asian Markets”.
