Before you scroll any further, I would just like to clarify that even though these cars have a depreciation of under $10k/year, some of them are definitely what I will not call ‘affordable‘.
BUT – the low depreciation easily tricks my mind into thinking they are good buys, especially for the speed and driving fun.
Note : All the cars below are COE cars, with a 0 – 100km/h time of 6 seconds or less.
1. Subaru WRX 2.0/2.5
Search : https://bit.ly/2Wpj3sb
Price : $17.8k – $72k depending on COE
Depre : $5,970 – $9,730 per year
If you’re looking for cheap horsepower, few cars can beat the WRX. I’m guessing this has something to do with the low OMV and Subaru’s resale value.
Anyway, the WRX comes in a few forms – 2.0 vs 2.5, and in 4 or 5 door variants.
The WRX comes with a 2.0-litre turbo engine producing about 250 horsepower, the 2.5 comes with lesser power at around the 230 range.
The 2.5 STI however, comes with about 280 horsepower. I also noticed that these cars do not have too many owners, which is typical of sports cars (which is a good thing).
2. Audi S3
Search : https://bit.ly/3btgGsq
Price : $68k – 89k
Depre : $7.5k – $9.1k
Coming with a modest 2.0 turbo engine producing 252 horsepower, the Audi S3 could be your choice for a fast German hatchback.
It does 0-100km/h in 5.6 seconds, with a top speed of 250km/h.
3. Audi S4
Search : https://bit.ly/2yDwaNj
Price : $83k – $90k
Depre : $8,380 – $9,670
Coming with a 3 litre V6 engine, the S4 packs 329 horsepower, 440Nm of torque, and does 0 – 100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
The downside of this car is that not many can differentiate it from a regular A4, which isn’t that rare on Singapore roads.
4. Audi S5 Sportback
Search : https://bit.ly/3fIuQJu
Price : $83k – $90k
Depre : $7,980 – $9,870
If the S4 is just too ‘sedan-looking’ for you, then the S5 is a sportier alternative with its sportback layout, being longer, lower and wider than the S4.
Under the hood of the Audi S5 is a V6 supercharged engine producing 329 horsepower, 440 Nm of torque, and it does 0 – 100km/h in 5.4 seconds.
5. BMW 335i
Search : https://bit.ly/3clsUEK
Price : $71k – $89k
Depre : $7,680 – $9,570 per year
With a twin-turbocharged 3 litre inline 6 engine under the bonnet (wow even typing that out sounds powerful) – the 335i comes with 302 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. 0-100km/h in this car takes just 5.5 seconds.
Even though this car is down 100+ hp from the M3, it uses the N54 engine which is highly tune-able. With a stage 2 remap, it can be more powerful than the M3 while helping you save on the road tax and insurance costs.
6. BMW 535i
Search : https://bit.ly/35Pb6j0
Price : $80k – $97k
Depre : $ 7,980 – $9,670 per year
For a more practical (and comfortable) option to the 335i, the 535i is a quick sedan that houses a 3-litre turbocharged inline 6 engine churning out 306 horsepower, 400 Nm of torque and does 0 – 100km/h in 5.8 seconds, which for a car this heavy (close to 1.8 tons) is not too shabby.
7. Renault Megane RS
Search : https://bit.ly/2LkZYAP
Price : $59.8k – $82.8k
Depre : $6,730 – $8,280 per year
Coming with a 2-litre turbocharged engine producing 250 horsepower, the Megane RS is often compared to the more popular (and more expensive) Civic Type-R.
The only downside is that there are only 2 COE models available on the market right now, so choices are extremely limited.
The good thing about this car is that it only comes with a 6 speed manual – for true petrolheads.
