Exciting times for Mazda fans, and those who are considering a Mazda – you now have a good reason to do so (if the turbocharged Mazda comes to Singapore, that is)
For the past few years, the Mazda 3 had to rely on nimble handling as a selling point against competitors. That’s all set to change however, as the turbocharged Mazda 3 has been confirmed.
Confirmed by Mazda Mexico (before the official US unveil) as seen from the screenshot and a video you can watch below :
With a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine outputting 227hp and 420Nm of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system, this looks like a very exciting car on paper.
In a document reveal however, it states that the Mazda 3 will only come with a 6 speed auto transmission. The turbocharged Mazda 3 may also not be too performance-oriented despite the numbers, if we look back at what the Mazda 3 project manager said awhile back :
“a turbocharged 3 should be fast, but also responsible and friendly…more friendly than a Golf GTI.”
A 2 litre turbo Mazda 3 may also be in the works, but we won’t know for sure until it’s confirmed what Singapore is getting,
Mazda has previously teased the turbo model with the tagline “power comes to those who wait”, announcing an official global reveal for July 8. While the Mexican-market details has broken cover early, it’s unlikely to vary much in other regions.
